Milei Calls Fate Closure Critics 'Criminals'

President Javier Milei again criticized those who engage in 'cheap nationalism' following the announced closure of the tire company Fate, calling them 'criminals'. Milei posted on his X social media account a post showing an interview on a streaming channel, where a tire company executive admits: 'we were robbing with the prices of the tires'. According to the Argentine News Agency (NA), Milei's post refers to the Fate case, which announced its closure after 80 years, laid off 920 employees at its San Fernando plant, and cited complications from the government's economic policies. 'Dedicated to the criminals who make cheap nationalism a banner to rob decent Argentines,' the President wrote in his account, accompanying the video. This refers to statements by Roberto Méndez, CEO of the tire company Neumen, who stated: 'I am the first to recognize it: the multinationals were robbing, the entrepreneurs had an unreal market'. Méndez said he agrees with what (Deregulation Minister Federico) Sturzenegger says about forcing companies to adapt to a normal profitability of around 20 percent' when they were 'marking up by 60 or 70 percent'.
